Sicilian baron Ferdinando Cefalù (Marcello Mastroianni) wants to marry his 16-year-old cousin. But as he is still married and divorce was not yet legal in Italy, he hatches a plan: If he can catch his wife in the arms of another man (he has set her up with), he can shoot both of them and get off with a light sentence.
