Atanas Boev managed to find love: Although the stuttering 3D engineer from Bulgaria doesn’t have the looks of a George Clooney or a Brad Pitt, he found someone to marry him and start a family. Boev feels that this accomplishment has qualified him to help a group of nerdy men like himself to find real love. These lonely and shy men may be geniuses on the computers and at their jobs, but they have little experience dealing with the opposite sex. After Markus, for example, has determined that his date has no interest in video games, he proceeds to explain to her the ways in which the game Mass Effect 3 is an improvement from its predecessor Mass Effect 2. Not surprising, there isn’t a second date.
Boev is the self-appointed mentor to this woeful group of nerds and geeks. He applies his training as an engineer to love and romance by trying to develop a scientific formula for finding the perfect partner. Using computer and programming language, he gives the four men advice and guides his guinea pigs through their dates hoping to teach them how to “hack” love in the modern world. In his documentary LOVE & ENGINEERING director Tonislav Hristov follows these likeable nerds and geeks on their amusing quest (at least for the audience) for love and romance. With this film Hristov has made a Finnish counterpart of THE BIG BANG THEORY.
