Fabienne Dangeville (Catherine Deneuve) is an actress and diva through and through, nothing and no one is more important than her current performance, and she just published her memoir, much to the chagrin of her daughter (Juliette Binoche). Kore-eda‘s excellent feel for interpersonal oscillations also works in the microcosm of a dysfunctional French acting family. He skillfully feigns a big, dark secret at first, only to spin a far more complex web later on, in which truthfulness and lies turn out to be relative terms.
