Intelligent, confident, engaged young women like Greta Thunberg and Luisa Neubauer don‘t just exist in Sweden and Germany. They take to the streets for more climate protection, justice, and democracy all over the worlf. Filmmaker Franz Böhm and his team followed three activists on three continents in DEAR FUTURE CHILDREN. In Santiago de Chile, 23 year old Rayen fights for more equality, also for her future children. Even though Chile is considered to be the richest country in Latin America, low wages and pensions create a huge gap between the poor and rich in a country with a constitution that was written under dictator Pinochet. Rayen protests for a more fair system, despite the massive amount of police violence. Hilda, 22, lives in Uganda and has directly experienced the consequences of the climate crisis. The plants on her parent‘s plantation dried up, and when the yearned for rain finally did come – the huge amount of water ripped everything apart. Hilda‘s parents had to sell their land and the family lost their home, like many others. Hilda couldn‘t go to school for months. Today, she‘s the founder of Fridays for Future Uganda and stands up for the environment. 22 year old “Pepper,“ who was born in Hong Kong and raised with democratic values there, is going up against the political influence of China. She takes big risks and leads a double life in order to do so.

Böhm portrays the three brave women, highlights the motivations and doubts and supplements his rousing film with images of protests and snippets from the news. Rayen, Hilda, Pepper and their comrades show that the generation born around the year 2000 is demonstrating for their rights around the globe – and that they won‘t let up.
