Soura Film Festival

The queer Soura Film Festival Berlin will screen works by filmmakers from the SWANA region (South West Asia and North Africa) at Oyoun. The third edition presents seven feature films, 30 shorts, podium discussions, and an exhibition. The festival opens with Diako Yazdani‘s THE MANY LIVES OF KOJIN about a young man who tries to find his place in a society that has no room for him. Other highlights are the documentary SEYRAN ATEŞ: SEX, REVOLUTION AND ISLAM by Nefise Özkal Lorentzen, the Lebanese DEATH OF A VIRGIN, AND THE SIN OF NOT LIVING by George Peter Barbari which was in this year‘s Panorama, and the 2021 Teddy winner MIGUEL‘S WAR which director Eliane Raheban worked on for nine years. The retrospective will show Mohammed Shebl‘s ANYAB, an Egyption version of the ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, and the new section “Beyond Borders“ spotlights Pakistani filmmaking. A selection of shorts from the last editions are available to watch online at Indiekino Club until October 7th.
