In 1968 Elvis had not performed in 10 years. His concert comeback in a TV show with an audience was a sensation. The luxuriantly produced beginning and end-sequences shows Las Vegas soul which Elvis would perfect in his later performances, but it‘s the midsection, the “sit down session“ with Elvis‘ band from his Sun Records days, Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana, that was so fantastic and passionate that Elvis allowed himself to mock the new bands like “The Beatles and The Beards.“ Elvis‘ live version of “Trying to Get to You“ was like nothing ever heard before.
