Marvin Rees is a Bristolian of, in his own words, "mixed race". He knows that it will not be easy for him to become the first mayor of colour of a European city but at the same time he also knows too much about the city's dark past to not try. Bristol is a city steeped in a past of slavery, riots and poverty and Marvin has experienced life in its poorest parts first hand.
