When Val, the son of a gay couple (Robin Williams and Nathan Lane), wants to marry the daughter of a conservative politician (Gene Hackman), the Meet-The-Parents-evening makes it necessary to get back in the closet for an evening. But of course things do not go to plan and soon everything escalates towards a flamboyant finale.
