In September 2013 Diana Nyad (Annette Benning) swam from Florida to Cuba, aged 64 and without the aid of a shark cage. Getting to this point was a struggle and would not have been possible without her friend/trainer Bonnie Stoll (Jodie Foster) and that of captain John Bartlett (Rhys Ifans).
