A short film dealing with the energy generated through human confrontations with walls. The urge for freedom and fulfillment is just as human as the urge to build walls for everyday order. Three individuals in different countries are struggling under this tension and finally decide to go all in. // Krump by Johannes Ziegler / Germany - 2016 - Short Documentary / Krump is a short documentary about the dance style 'Krump' and introduces young dancers, by award winning filmmaker Johannes Ziegler. The dancers show and tell to the viewer, how they use dance, to express their deep emotions and with this, they can feel free and peaceful. In an aesthetic way, this film immerses itself into a unkown world. Two KRUMP dancers meet in a battle, it seems to be aggressive, but by personal voice-over comments and imaging resolution, we learn that KRUMP is a way let free, to express emotions and to communicate peacefully //
This Is Not The Time (Be A Human) by Joeann Calabrese / USA - 2016 - Short Documentary / This is a sound and visual experience that captures the energy in America during the 2016 Presidential election - and correlates this time to the 1960s civil rights movement. Poez, whom the New York Times called a “spoken-word pioneer”, calls for us to be humans and exercise our right to participate in society - to not give up even when we are feeling beaten. He calls for civil societies to embrace the exchange of dialogue, demonstrate tolerance for different view points, and support human and civil rights. Images dance with his words to reflect the vivacious exchange of viewpoints on the streets in NYC during the 2016 election and the struggle we fought to win as a nation, in the past, to earn civil rights protection. This film was not planned and therefore the performance video captured is not the best quality. I created this film after attending an anti-Trump protest rally, a few days after I went to see Paul Mills aka Poez perform at The Bitter End in NYC. The emotions around town during the 2016 election were everywhere - on the street, in the clubs and coffee shops. I was so moved by the mood around town, I felt compelled to create a film and Poez's words in 'This Is Not The Time' was, to me, the perfect reflection of discourse -or lack thereof - taking place in NYC at the time. //

Is it a genre, a radio format, or music from a specific period of time? Filmmaker & lifelong rocker Daniel Sarkissian travels the world, interviewing iconic artists in search of an answer: An exploration of the evolution of the term classic rock, the influence the political landscape of the 60s/70s had on the music of the time (ex. The Vietnam War) & the changes in the music industry since the internet boom. Classic rock is one of the most popular styles of music in the world, touching the lives of generations of people. Yet ironically, no one knows exactly what classic rock is. Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple: There are certain artists who everyone agrees belong in the classic rock story, but where does that story begin and where does it end? For some, classic rock constitutes music released during a specific period of time. For others, it’s a genre or simply a radio format. Thus, I have taken it upon myself to travel the world, from the Sunset Strip to Abbey Road Studios, interviewing artists from iconic bands such as KISS, The Guess Who, Jethro Tull, The Doobie Brothers, Guns N’ Roses, Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper, Styx, Triumph, Grand Funk Railroad, Megadeth, Korn, Billy Talent and many others, all in search of an answer to the question: How do you define classic rock?
