How to tell your own story? The young Amal is not a good storyteller, she claims. Yet she still leads us through the story of her family. The Samounis have tended wide pieces of land on the outskirts of Gaza city for generations. In the operation “Cast Lead” of 2008/09, 29 members of the family were murdered by an Israeli military unit, the Samouni’s houses and fields destroyed. Amal herself was at first believed dead. What follows is a difficult battle for the reconstruction not only of her own existence, but of her memory and history. In reserved observations and haunting animations, Savona shows the trauma of a family that has lived through the unimaginable.
