Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) is struggling to make ends meet for himself and his child sister. He keeps on getting fired from jobs due to reactions caused by trauma and when he is offered a job as a nightwatchman at an abandoned family restaurant, he first declines. Mike needs his nights to dream and seek a solution to the mystery of his brother who was abducted while Mike was briefly distracted.
But with money ever tighter and the evil aunt threatening to get custody for Mike's sister, he start his job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Finding out that the animatronic animals are roaming the premises at night is only a small issue. But when the connection to Mike's past become more apparent, things get dangerous.

The adaptation of the fairly scary video game is stuffed with trauma, plot and complications but low on scares or gore, and telegraphs its conclusion from the very beginning.

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S may be an acceptable introduction to the genre for budding horror heads in their early teens but as the german censors have slapped a 16-rating on the film, it's probably better to find something more satisfying and thrilling.
