Sea-based film noir about a seaman Michael (Orson Welles) who is drawn into a plot to fake a murder, not knowing that he is being set up to take the fall for a real one. The plan is thwarted but when it is revealed that Michael had an affair with his lawyer's wife (Rita Hayworth), his freedom is no longer safe.
