"The Casteless Collective" is a protest band from Chennai in South India.
Founded in December 2017, the 15-piece band plays a mix of folk Music “Gaana” from the Chennai slums mixed with modern music styles such as rap and rock. This is musically new and exciting and you can rarely hear lyrics with such clarity in India. It's about social inequalities of all kinds, but mainly about discrimination against Indians of lower castes. aja Meiners' documentary shows how the young band seeks to break through stigmatizations in a playful way and accompanies them for a while on their way into a future in an India without the caste system.
