San Isidro 1996: Billie, who wants to be a rock star and is not allowed to stay home in Manila because she loves girls instead of boys, and Emma who actually dates Miguel and dreams of a career as a lawyer meet at a Catholic girls’ school, where Billie’s aunt is a religion teacher, and fall in love. As if that weren’t complicated enough in an environment that condemns homosexuality and extramarital sex, Emma is pregnant. In quiet, atmospheric pictures Billie and Emma tells the story of two young women on their way to self-assertion and self-determination.
