When writer Mortimer Brewster (Cary Grant) returns to his home to tell the old aunts who raised him that is about to marry, he finds out that the old ladies are in the habit of poisoning lonely bachelors. Things get more complicated when Mortimer's brother Jonathan (Raymond Massey) arrives, who is himself a serial murderer and very interested to use his aunts' way of corpse disposal.
