In the late 1960s liverpudlian dock worker Jude (Jim Sturgess) travels to the United States looking for his father. He falls in with a group of New York hippies and even falls in love with Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood). But while there is much fun to be had during the Summer of Love, the spectres of Vietnam and violent revolution are never far.
