The Favourites Film Festival‘s objective is presenting films that have won the audience awards at festivals this year. It doesn‘t matter what the genre is or which country the film comes from. The festival opens with GEULA (REDEMPTION, Israel 2018) which won the audience award at the Jerusalem Film Festival and is about an orthodox father who revives his old band in order to finance his daughter‘s treatment and remembers his rock'n'roll life by doing so. In 18 year old (!) Nathan Ambrosioni‘s debut, PAPER FLAGS, a young man tries to start a new life with the help of his sister, whom he last saw as a child. In the Algerian film THE BLESSED a couple has to grapple with the question of whether to send their teenage son to study abroad. The Lithuanian film SUMMER SURVIVORS follows two young psychiatry patients and an ambitious psychologist on their trip to a clinic by the sea, and in THE VICE OF HOPE Maria, who works as an overseer for a human trafficking ring south of Nepal, gets pregnant, contrary to all medical prognoses. A documentary audience favorite is also featured, TALKING ABOUT TREES is about four aging filmmakers who attempt to revive film culture in their homeland Sudan...
