For Maia Zenardi, who calls herself Zen, life is all about ice hockey. While not fitting into social conventions or gender norms and living in a small village in the Italien Appennines, Zen is exposed to a lot of rejection and bullying in everyday life. While training with a male ice hockey team, Zen has to endure severe physical attacks. Only Vanessa, the girlfriend of the team captain, seems to understand the outsider*. Director Margherita Ferri captures the emotional coldness, that Zen is confronted with, in impressive images and addresses the difficult path of people who see themselves beyond heteronormative identity patterns.
