Pious Police Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) travels to the remote Scottish island Summerisle to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. The natives are friendly but rather closed when it comes to helping the investigation. Something odd is afoot on Summerisle, and it has something to do with the pagan society the Lord of the island (Christopher Lee) has established there.
