Director Tim Sutton wanted to create a "Club 27"-film for the younger generation. Here, rapper Machine Gun Kelly plays rapper Cole, a part which apparently is very close to MGK's actual life history, with a few different decisions taken. Constantly on one drug or a few others, Cole uses the downtime after a cancelled tour to work on a new song, and to antagonize every last person around him with his agressive diva behaviour. His assistant Ilana (Maddie Hanson, who offers the strongest performance of the film) bears the brunt of his bad behaviour and is more than once tempted to walk awaym but in the end never does.
Only in the last third of the film does Cole have a revelation that makes him want to change his life. But then it might already be too late.
