PRIVILEGE was the first and last film Watkins made for a major film studio. Set in a ‘near-future’ Great Britain, Watkins tells the story of pop-star Stephen Shorter who is little lore than the puppet and prisoner of a manipulating church and state. Staring Paul Jones (lead vocalist of 1960’s pop group Manfred Mann) as the tragic singer, the film is a look at how popular culture and the cult of celebrity can be used to placate and manipulate a potentially revolutionary youth.
