Sixteen-year-old tomboy Cyd is fleeing the city and spending the summer at her aunt Ruth's place. The novelist has to much to say and even more to write on the subject of love but when it comes to actually experiencing it or having sex, it has been a while since she had that pleasure. As coincidence would have it, Cyd is coming to discover new things about herself when she falls in love with the waitress Katie. In the intergenerational conversations with each other, Ruth and Cyd are understanding the nature of love better and better.
