Everything always all the time

During a stop-over in Switzerland pilot Kim gets a penis and goes home with it to Neukölln, where her nice boyfriend isn‘t very enthusiastic about the new accessory.

Philipp Eichholtz‘s new film is set in a futuristic present. Everything looks the way you know from Berlin 20-somethings, but there‘s an imaginary Swiss agency called “Gennaro“ where everyone can get cheap, quick gender reassignment surgery. Their slogan is “there are no genders, only choices“ and “DYG – Design Your Gender.“ Pilot Kim (Margarete Schöne-Radunski) decides to get a penis on a whim during a stop-over and takes it home, where her nice boyfriend Andreas doesn‘t know about her new accessory. Eichholz and his ensemble conduct a “what if“ experiment with a lot of naturalism. The central question wasn‘t what would make for the funniest situation but rather what it would feel like, in reality, if the girlfriend suddenly had a penis. Very funny situations and dialogues do occur: Kim: “Would you like to touch it?“ Andreas: “Oh, not right now.“ While Kim tries out her new penis and Andreas tries to come to terms with the fact that a) she has one now and especially b) that he wasn‘t asked, their best friend Anna wrestles with the news that the boyfriend she was planning on having a baby with has impregnated someone else. She temporarily moves in with Kim and Andreas. KIM HAT EINEN PENIS is often pretty funny and it‘s also fun to watch the three of them as they negotiate their ideas about life and relationships, sometimes more eloquently, sometimes less so. Eichholtz created characters that are somehow real and edgy. They have a sense of humor and have fun and are also stupid and stubborn at times. They appreciate friendships. They are normal in an unspectacular, energetic way that‘s rare to find in cinema.
