Renée Zellweger plays Judy Garland at the end of her career with full commitment walking the fine line between high tension and losing control.

More

JUDY is about the last days of Judy Garland. Garland (Renée Zellwegger) goes on third rate stages with her two small children in tow and lives in first class hotels where she skips out on the bills. No one wants her anymore. She‘s too difficult, too ragged, too unreliable, too addicted to alcohol. “Dreams? I used to have them, they gave me terrible headaches!“ Judy‘s existence is hanging by a threat and she knows it, but she can‘t change it. If someone annoys her she lets them have it, she lets everyone else have it too. Renée Zellwegger plays a woman who is fighting for survival and custody. walking the fine line between high tension and losing control. She is the absolute lively center of an otherwise predictabe film. Whether you like JUDY depends on whether you would to spend two hours with Renée Zellwegger under a lot of pressure. At a party, Judy meet young Brit Mickey who gets her a gig in London. She is meant to fill a club for 3 months as the headliner. Garland reluctantly agrees and leaves her kids with her ex husband. Her assistant finds her drunk in the hotel at the first night and drags her on stage. It contines like this. While the present gets more and more disastrous, the musically colorful flashbacks show little child Judy Garland, the singing superstar from THE WIZARD OF OZ. Whenever little Judy wants to break out of the draconian routine, the studio calls her back. To the public she‘s the girl next door who also eats burgers, but behind the scenes she‘s not even allowed to take a bite. Pills to wake up, pills to fall asleep, as well as pills to stay skinny as an adult. JUDY depicts a direct downward spiral from child star to an addicted wreck.
