Paul Robeson's life (1898-1976) was full of successes: a star athlete in his youth, he later found fame as an actor an singer ("Ol' Man River"). But his support of civil rights movements soon brought him to the attention of the FBI and the McCarthyists. The subsequent blacklisting almost destroyed his entire career.
