From the Québécois underground comes French-Canadian Olivier Godin to joyfully and radically do away with cinematic conventions. In his latest prank, “Waiting for April” (“En attendant avril”), a female detective goes searching for a singing bone, surmising it to be in the hands of the handsome actor who just happens to have a monkey’s arm. Making use of the most modest of means, Godin interrogates the absurd through a mixture of music, lyricism and situational comedy. Legend has it he once substituted an actor for a stone: could well have happened.
