It is the futuristic year of 1997: The island of Manhattan has been sealed off and declared a maximum-security prison. When Airforce One crashes on the way to a conference which may decide the fate of the world, veteran and convicted bank robber Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) is sent to rescue the President (Donald Pleasance) from the clutches of The Duke (Isaac Hayes), who rules over Manhattan. Plissken does not go willingly but is promised his freedom if he succeeds. But he only has 48 hours...
