Mephistopheles promises the ageing professor Faust eternal youth, knowledge and satisfaction if he sells his soul to the devil. To convince him of his power, he transforms Faust into a young student. For his humorous interpretation of the Faust myth, René Clair turned to two of the greatest French actors of his time, Gérard Philipe and Michel Simon.
