After being together for many years Katha and Jana want to seal the deal and get married. They also want offspring and have already found a donor, Momo. Katha wants to tell the good news to her brother, her best friend, and a work colleague during a weekend rafting trip wile Jana stays in the city and meets her ex on her bachelorette party, who makes no secret about wanting to get back together with her. The rafting trip gets off on a rocky start because Katha’s brother also invited sperm donor Momo without her knowing though Katha doesn’t want to build a private relationship with him: according to her there is no father.
The best thing about DAS FLOß! is the way queer lifestyles are portrayed as a matter of course. No one questions Katha and Jana’s family planning. Instead, it’s about conflicts that remain the same no matter who you love: panic before tying the knot, temptations along the way, small jealousies. Julia C. Kaiser depicts contemporary role models with ease in her debut film. It’s not about whether Katha and Jana taking over masculine roles but rather that men don’t have a real function anymore in this model – except for a biological one. The agile hand-held camera buzzes around the well-acted characters that are at the center at all times. DAS FLOß! is a charming love film with a comforting soundtrack and conflicts that feel very real, from the cozy love nest beginnings to the reconciliation in the end.
