Edward Bloom (Albert Finney) had been a passionate teller of tall tales. When he is found to be succumbing to cancer, his son Will (Billy Crudup) hurries to be by his side and to hear the full of story of Edward's life, possibly for the last time. It's a long story and in his younger days Edward (Ewan McGregor) met many strange but kind people.

It's a film by Tim Burton, after all.
