Poesia sin fin

In the second part of his surreal and exuberant autobiography, Alejandro Jodorowsky depicts the young artist cutting ties with his father and him becoming a poet.

More

After over 2 decades of directorial abstinence, Alejandro Jodorowsky released the autobiographical musical THE DANCE OF REALITY in 2013 about his childhood with his communist resistance fighter father whose goal it was to kill off everything that was soft about young Alejandro and who was just as tough on himself. ENDLESS POETRY directly ties in with its predecessor wherein the family boards the ship to Santiago de Chile. In Chile Alejandro the teen (played by his youngest son Adan) has to work at his father‘s shop (played by Jodorowsky‘s oldest son Brontis) while he prepares for his career as a lawyer. His father doesn‘t accept that the boy sees his future as a poet, which in his eyes is almost equal to the capital crime of homosexuality. But Alejandro only loves men as “brothers of art,“ while living out his sexual interest in women after cutting off his “family tree“ and falling into the artist and poet‘s milieu in order to find out who he actually is. The fact that things often turn highly dramatic is clear. But in these moments the old, real Alejandro can give the younger one advice.

ENDLESS POETRY is anything but boring and realistic. Whether it‘s the hooded stagehands who hand over props, the mothers who sing their dialogue in opera style, or emotional conflicts that are carried out in a circus, every moment becomes a gaudily colored spectacle in which playfulness and exuberance crackle and burn without becomes completely silly. For young Jodorowsky being a poet means being able to love the entire world, and this love gives anchors him in his wild years. He can make peace with the past and set off to other chapters of his life.
